Because that’s when they stretch attention, muddle through spats, and build stamina without a script. It’s not a treat after the “learning”—it is where a lot of the learning happens.

It’s a practice. Space that isn’t overfilled, time that isn’t overbooked, and an adult who doesn’t run in to make it interesting every time it goes quiet. It gets better with weeks, not a weekend.

If you keep trying to drag a worksheet into the middle, you’ve made a new chore. The good stuff is usually what happens when you get out of the way.
